San Diego Chapter

Founded in 1963, the San Diego Chapter of American Jewish Committee works to promote AJC’s national and international mission. AJC is often referred to as the State Department for the Jewish people worldwide. We are the leading agency for building relationships with other religious and ethnic groups in the county; advocating for balanced press coverage and support of Israel; providing our local leaders and members with opportunities to interact with foreign diplomats on issues concerning Jewish communities worldwide and working to defend the separation of church and state. We advocate policies that can help the US achieve energy independence in an environmentally friendly manner

AJC Mission

  • To safeguard the welfare and security of Jews in the United States, in Israel, and throughout the world.
  • To strengthen the basic principles of pluralism around the world, as the best defense against anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry.
  • To enhance the quality of American Jewish life by helping to ensure Jewish continuity and deepen ties between American and Israeli Jews.

Local Priorities for 2008

  • Strengthen relationships with other ethnic groups such as our Latino-Jewish Coalition through programming and the sharing of cultures and models of advocacy
  • Promote national and international energy security through legislative forums and conservations programs
  • Advocate for Israel’s security through education and diplomacy
