 Latino-Jewish Coalition

The San Diego Chapter is the leading voice in San Diego for Jewish-Latino relations, building the city's first coalition to promote greater communication, cooperation, understanding, respect and friendship between the communities; pursue a collaborative working relationship on issues of mutual concern, and facilitate programs to benefit Jews and Latinos of all ages in San Diego County.

  • April 3 – Tad Seth Parzen, president of the San Diego chapter of the American Jewish Committee, concluded a model seder for the Latino-Jewish Coalition on Tuesday evening, April 1.

2008 Highlights

  • February 26 – presentation and discussion on Latino and Jewish perspectives on local labor issues led by Lorena Gonzalez, Secretary, Treasurer and CEO, San Diego –Imperial Counties Labor Council, and, Donald Cohen, Co-Founder and President, Center on Policy Initiatives
  • March 27 – AJC will host a table at the Cesar Chavez breakfast sponsored by the Unity Coalition
  • April 1 – Passover Seder celebrated by members of two distinct ethnic communities who share in common a history of struggle and an aspiration for freedom.
  • May – Program dealing with Israel at 60 and the Middle East in general.  TBD.
  • July– AJC hosted reception during the annual conference of National Council of La Raza.  Special event for AJC’s Latino-Jewish Coalition featuring Dina Siegel Vann, Director of AJC’s Latino and Latin American Institute).
